In this short video I show how to use a
free web site copier to make complete working copies of almost any web
site. Can also be used to convert your WordPress and other database
driven sites to pure html sites.
I recently needed to move one of
my sites to a new host, but the new host didn't have the programming
language the site was written in. To get the site to work on the new
host, I needed to convert all the pages in the site to pure html.Normally, this would be a big problem. It meant I'd have to recode each individual page into html and test the pages to make sure I didn't create any errors or problems in the process.
For a site with hundreds of pages, it could take weeks to get the job completed.
Fortunately, there is a far easier solution than hand coding each page.
Using website copier software, I could copy the entire site and have all the pages converted into html. During the conversion process, the copier also saves all the links and adjusts them so they work with the new html pages.
I end up with a working copy of the web site, no programming required, and the entire process takes just a few minutes.
Rather than go into great detail about how this works, I created the short video below showing how easy it is to copy any web site using the free HTTrack Web Site copier software.
As shown in the above video, HTTrack web makes it easy to copy entire web sites and convert them into html pages. You can even copy database driven sites like those created with WordPress.
Once the web site has been copied, it will run as a pure html site, and WordPress or whatever CMS was used to create it, won't be needed.
The only things that won't work on the new site will be interactive database features - like a discussion forum or a search feature.
Still, for a quick way to copy almost any site and convert the pages into pure html, the free HTTrack program is hard to beat.
