10 tips for creating profitable YouTube videos

If you want to create a YouTube video that has a much higher chance of going viral, you'll want to check out this list of great tips. Each one gives an idea for a video and an example of one that went viral
As I've mentioned in previous articles, I think posting monetized videos on YouTube is one of the best ways to create a passive income stream these days.
If you post the right kind of video and it goes viral and gets hundreds of thousands or even millions of views, YouTube will pay you quite a bit of money.
Based on what YouTube has paid me, you earn about $5,000 for every 500,000 views a video gets - assuming you have monetized the video (see Monetizing your YouTube videos).
With that it mind, it definitely pays to create the kinds of videos that are likely to get high view counts. To help you do that, I've prepared the following.
My ten tips on creating the kinds of video that go Viral at YouTube
  1. Install a dash cam in your car - dash cam videos can quickly go viral on YouTube. All you really need is to be in the right place at the right time with your dash cam recording the action. Whether it be a close call in traffic, a meteor falling out of the sky or a parking lot scuffle, getting it on video and posting it on YouTube is a proven path to going viral. The dash cam video below has gotten more than 39 million views!
A good dashcam costs less than sixty dollars and can be set to automatically record whenever you start your car. Details at http://www.bmyers.com/members/Dashcam_video_and_YouTube.cfm
  2. Get a Cat or kitten - and follow him (or her) around with a video camera. Funny, cute or heart warming cat or kitten videos on YouTube get more views than almost all other categories combined. For example, the video below has 60 million views.
  3. Get a dog or puppy - and follow him or her around with a camera. Funny, cute or heart warming dog videos are very popular on Youtube. Here's one with 97 million views!
  4. Create a video about the iphone - As you probably know millions of people have iPhones and they'll stand in line to get the latest version or update. Videos showing new features, tricks, and hidden functions of the iPhone do well. Videos that show how to break or damage an iPhone or show problems with the iphone do ever better. The one below has almost 70 million views.
  5. Create a Surprise Eggs video - and be sure to include the words 'Disney' and 'Sponge Bob' in the video description. I don't know why these are popular but they are. The one below has 341 million views!!!
  6. Do a Play Doh Surprise Eggs opening video - the one at https://youtu.be/mI0FKAIlSeU has 268 million views!
  7. Create a Cars II video game video - record gameplay from Cars II or other animated child friendly video games. The one below has over 117 million views!
  8. Create a video showing how to play, advance, or build out MineCraft - MineCraft is one of the most popular games these days, and people love to find videos showing how to do things with MineCraft. Some MineCraft videos get 30 to 50 million views. The one below is in Spanish, and it has 11 million views.
  9. Create Gameplay videos on other popular games - Start by checking out the list of most popular video games (http://www.statista.com/statistics/251222/most-played-pc-games/), and create videos showing how to play, advance, beat or find hidden secrets in those games. Some of these game videos get many millions of views.
  10. Use 'funny' in your video title and description - including the word 'funny' guarantees you a fairly large audience. Of course it helps if the video is actually funny. The one below has more than 187 million views!
So there you have it, my ten tips on creating the kinds of videos that are most likely to go viral on YouTube and get millions of views.
Create these kinds of videos, post to YouTbe and monetize them, and sooner or later your videos will go viral.
The key is to post as many funny, weird, strange and 'ahh' inspiring short videos as you can.
